Manage Stockists

Presto needs to know where your retail store customers are located to be able to show them on the map. This is based around your customer Contacts in Xero. To avoid potential accidental private address leaks as well as to ensure quality in the data, Presto doesn’t consider the address stored in Xero for the customer. Each store location needs to be added manually through Presto. Note as well that you can show more than one location for a single Xero Contact, but since it’s not clear where the stock went, all locations for a Contact will be treated the same in terms of what products are considered to be stocked.

Adding a location to a customer

From the Stockist Map Dashboard, click “Edit Locations”. This takes you to the list of Stockists.

If this is the first location you are adding, you will see just a search box and an empty list (The list shows customers which have a location).

Start by searching for the customer’s name as it appears in Xero. Once you are searching, the list changes to show all Xero Contacts which match your search, whether they have a location or not. Once you find a customer for which you want to add a location, click the “Edit Locations” button on the search result row for the customer. Then click “Add New Location”.

From here, you are effectively searching an online map service similar to Google Maps, which allows your end customers to see rich location information and a link to get directions through Google Maps. Search for the public facing name of the store here. If there is more than one result from the search, highlight the right one in the list, and repeat the search until you find the right spot. (Since this is a Google Maps search, you use the full address if searching by name isn’t finding it, but using the name is preferable as that will provide richer information to users of your map). Use the map preview to check if the location looks correct.

You have the option here to customise the name to display on the map (defaulting to the Xero Contact name).

When you are happy with it, press “Save”.

You can then add more locations for the same customer, or go back to the customer list to add some more.

Known Locations

Presto has a database of Known Locations of stores, such as supermarkets. When you perform a search, if there's a match with the name of a Known Location, an indication will be shown, giving you more certainty that the result is correct.

If you have a lot of stockist locations, or even if you just want to save some effort, you can use the bulk location search.

This is a two-step process, where you first select a bunch of customers to search on, and optionally override the search term to use for each of them. After submitting the search it will run in the background, and results should be ready after a couple of minutes.

Step two is to review the search results. Like with the individual map search, the first result isn't always have the location you expected. From here you can reject or accept each result, and there is a button to view a minimap to help with determining if the result is correct.

Ultimately the bulk search saves a lot of clicking and navigating over going one by one through your customers.

Handling suppy via distribution center

If you supply supermarkets through a distribution center (DC), Presto makes this easy to manage.

The first steps are similar to above, you first need to navigate to the contact for the distribution center. Once you're on that page, you'll see a toggle at the top of the page labelled "This contact is a supermarket distributor". Click to toggle that mode on.

From there, you'll be able to filter through a list of known supermarket locations, and select which ones you want to link to this customer.

A limitation of this is that we can only assume that all the selected supermarkets stock all of the products that the distribution center stocks, so that's what they'll show on the map.

Also note that this feature is currently limited to New Zealand.
